When the whole world took a pause during the Coronavirus outbreak, ULAB and its co-curricular activities kept leading through setting examples.
Shifting to a whole new system virtually was full of challenges, yet ULAB’s co-curricular clubs demonstrated a flair for hosting several successful events and activities.
Some of the noteworthy competitions during the pandemic included – Idea Hunters 1.0, Hult Prize ULAB, Daring Debates Bangladesh Chapter, National Digital Learning Competition, Online Blitz Tournament, ULAB virtual concert series, etc. Several workshops and webinars were also held by different clubs to enrich students’ development.
For the very first time ULAB Co-curricular Office launched one of its biggest Business Competitions, “Hult Prize” sponsored by YN Study solution Malaysia on 7th August 2020.
This is an annual competition that challenges young people to solve social issues. A total of 10 teams out of 15 have qualified for the 2nd round. A total of 5 grooming sessions for the participants were held via Google Meet, beginning from 18th September 2020.
ULAB’s Digital Marketing Club organized a national marketing competition ‘Idea Hunters 1.0’ which was sponsored by Priyoshop.com.
The competition consisted of 3 rounds where a total of 132 students from different universities around the country participated in the 1st round.
UDMC had also arranged seminars on Digital Commerce, Fintech Sessions, Digital Marketing, Social Media Marketing, etc.
ULAB Debating Club hosted the Bangladesh series of Daring Debates, a global debate competition. Daring Debates aims to ensure the bigger participation of the youth from across the world in policy ideation.
Competition for the Bangladesh chapter was held from 16th to 17th October 2020. The winning team will represent Bangladesh in the global finals on 16th November 2020.
ULAB’s 1st Online Blitz Tournament was hosted by ULAB Chess Club on 17th July 2020. 10 teams from different institutions participated in the competition. They also organized workshops on how to get International Chess Ratings and a webinar on Critical Thinking for Success.
ULAB Business Club aired its first episode of ULAB Entrepreneur’s Platform on 25th July 2020. The series featured some inspiring entrepreneurs who shared their journey and encouraged many students.
Some more constructive workshops like – “Grooming Session for Business Competitions” by ULAB Business Club, “Basic Animation Workshop” by ULAB Theatre Club, “Analytical Reading” & “Workshop on Citations (APA & MLA)” by ULAB Language Club, “Excel Workshop” & “Graphics Designing Workshop” by Sustainable Development Club, “Digital Filmmaking Technique at Home” by ULAB Film Club etc.
were held to ensure the overall skill development of the students and prepare them for a competitive post-pandemic world. To cut the monotony of the students ULAB Media Club arranged for a virtual concert series.
ULAB’s Sustainable Development Club & Indoor Games Club jointly organized “ONLINE GYM” an online platform where weekly online fitness sessions were conducted by a professional fitness consultant.
It was a successful initiative that helped ULABIANS to maintain a healthy and fit lifestyle during this pandemic situation. In order to promote the mental wellbeing of the students, ULAB Nutrition & Wellness Club featured “Comedy Live Session”.
Mohammad Parash, a stand-up comedian and 1st runner-up in Mirakkel Akkel Challenge was the guest speaker at the event. The Film Club also did the screening of 2 short films “Lockdown” & “Mirror” during this pandemic.
“Mirror” has been selected officially by Lift-Off Global Network. This is how the Co-Curricular Clubs of ULAB are marching forward with a promising pace and becoming unstoppable during a pandemic.
